CBRT Launches EVDS-MCP: Central Bank of Türkiye Data Now in ChatGPT and Claude
The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT) launched EVDS-MCP on 26 October 2026 with press release no. 2026-46. Economic and financial data in the Electronic Data Delivery System (EVDS), from exchange rates and inflation expectations to interest rates and the House Price Index, can now be queried in plain language from MCP-enabled AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Gemini CLI and LM Studio.
What is EVDS-MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open protocol that lets AI models connect to external data sources and tools in a standard way. EVDS-MCP is the official server the CBRT provides over this protocol. It is not a chat interface or an AI model on its own; it acts as a bridge between your AI application and EVDS.
The CBRT has offered EVDS as an open data platform since 1993 and renewed it with EVDS 3 in January 2026. EVDS-MCP extends the platform's access channels to cover AI tools.
What can you do with it?
Until now, getting data from EVDS meant finding series codes, downloading spreadsheets or writing code against the API. Now a single sentence is enough:
-
"Show the monthly change in USD and EUR rates since 2024 on a chart."
-
"Compare the House Price Index with the new tenant index over the last year."
-
"Fetch market participants' 12
-
and 24-month-ahead inflation expectations monthly for the last two years."
-
"Which payment systems series are available in EVDS?"
The model finds the right category, data group and series on its own, pulls the data and returns it as a table, chart or commented analysis.
What data can you access with EVDS-MCP?
Alp Işık, who shared one of the first tests on X, asked the AI "Which data can we look at?" after connecting and got a 34-item list. It is not an official or complete catalogue, but it shows that most commonly needed indicators are available:
| Area | Data | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| FX and commodities | Exchange rates; real effective exchange rate; gold and silver (BIST); Brent oil | Daily / monthly / business day |
| Rates and markets | Policy rate (BIS source); CBRT funding cost; TLREF / overnight repo; rediscount and advance rates; government bond benchmark; deposit / loan rates; BIST 100 and sector indices | Daily / weekly / monthly |
| Reserves and portfolio | CBRT gross reserves; non-residents equity and bond holdings; banking system opening liquidity | Weekly / business day |
| Inflation | CPI; core CPI; domestic PPI; inflation expectations (market / household) | Monthly |
| Housing | House price and new rent index; house sales | Monthly |
| Growth and real sector | GDP growth; industrial production; capacity utilisation; consumer / business confidence; unemployment rate; electricity consumption | Quarterly / monthly / daily |
| External balance and fiscal | Current account balance; exports; budget balance | Monthly |
| Banking and payments | TRY / FX deposits; consumer loans; card spending; FAST instant payment count | Weekly / daily |
The 4 tools behind it
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
list_categories | Lists EVDS subject categories. |
list_datagroups | Lists data groups in a category; supports search criteria. |
list_series | Lists the series and series codes in a data group. |
get_series_data | Returns data for one or more series by date range and parameters. |
Users don't run these tools directly; the AI model decides which one to call and with which parameters. All four tools are read-oriented.
How to set up EVDS-MCP: step by step
1. Get your EVDS API key
-
Sign up at evds3.tcmb.gov.tr.
-
Log in via "Benim Sayfam" (My Page).
-
Click your username and open "Profilim" (My Profile).
-
Copy your key with "API KEY KOPYALA" at the bottom of the page.
2. Add the server to your AI tool
Server URL: https://mcp.tcmb.gov.tr/tcmb-mcp/evds/mcp — authentication is OAuth, using your EVDS API key.
-
Claude: Customize → Connectors → Add → Add Custom Connector. Name it "EVDS" and paste the URL above. Click "Connect", enter your API key on the page that opens and confirm.
-
ChatGPT: Settings → Plugins → Browse directory → Add → Add Custom MCP Server. Choose OAuth for authentication and verify your API key at the "Continue to EVDS" step.
-
Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http evds https://mcp.tcmb.gov.tr/tcmb-mcp/evds/mcp -
Gemini CLI:
gemini mcp add --transport http evds https://mcp.tcmb.gov.tr/tcmb-mcp/evds/mcp -
LM Studio: Integrations → Install → Edit mcp.json to add the server, then sign in via "Authenticate".
Start with a simple question such as "What are the main data categories in EVDS?" Early user tests shared on social media show the available datasets can be listed as a table within seconds.
4 tips for more accurate results
-
Name the data precisely: write "USD/TRY selling rate" instead of "exchange rate data".
-
Give a date range: e.g. "2024–2026" or "last 6 months".
-
Specify the frequency: daily, weekly, monthly or yearly.
-
Describe the output: say whether you want a table, a chart or an analysis.
Things to keep in mind
The CBRT states that its role is limited to serving EVDS data in an AI-compatible format and that it is not responsible for the AI tools used or their outputs. The user guide also warns that while the connection is enabled, the model may call the tool without asking you each time.
For investment, pricing or reporting decisions, check the series code, period and unit the model used, and verify critical figures on EVDS. If you want to read more on MCP security, see our post on AI agent security and MCP servers.
Why it matters
A central bank opening its official data platform to AI tools through the MCP standard marks a new phase in access to public data. Economists, finance teams, journalists, academics and students can now analyse data without hunting for series codes or writing code.
For companies, the real opportunity is combining EVDS data with internal data (sales, costs, inventory) in the same AI workflow: FX-driven pricing alerts, budget scenarios based on inflation expectations, or automated weekly market reports can now be built much faster.
At SUNS Tech we build MCP servers, AI integrations and business process automation. If you want to bring EVDS-MCP into your reporting or decision-support workflows, get in touch with our team.
