SUNS Technology Builds Meva Photo's AI Biometric Visa Platform
SUNS Technology is providing software development services to Meva Photo, an Istanbul-based visa and biometric photo startup. On this project our team is building Meva Photo's AI-powered biometric photo engine, visa application tracking system, web app and iOS/Android mobile app end to end. The goal is simple: a user takes a photo with their phone, without visiting a studio, turns it into a biometric photo that meets visa, passport and ID standards within minutes, and tracks the whole visa process from a single platform.
What is Meva Photo?
Meva Photo is an AI-powered biometric photo and visa tracking platform that digitizes the visa application process. Users select their destination, upload their documents, take a photo with their phone and follow the status of their application live.
According to Meva Photo's website, the platform supports visa, passport, driver's licence and ID photo standards for more than 100 countries, led by Schengen, US, UK and Canada visa photos. Each country has its own rules for size, background colour and head position, and the platform manages these differences on the user's behalf.

What is SUNS Technology building for Meva Photo?
On the Meva Photo project we own the technical side of the product. That covers integrating the AI model into the product, the mobile and web side, and the security infrastructure. In short, the scope looks like this:
-
We are building an AI-powered photo processing pipeline for face detection and alignment, automatic background removal, light and colour correction, and biometric compliance checks for the selected country and document type.
-
We are developing a document management system that lists up-to-date visa requirements based on passport type and travel purpose and automatically detects missing or incorrect documents.
-
We are building application tracking that follows every stage live and sends an instant push notification when the visa decision is issued.
-
We are developing iOS and Android apps with in-app biometric photo capture, document scanning and offline document access.
-
Alongside a browser-based web app that needs no installation, we are preparing an SEO-friendly, multilingual (Turkish/English) marketing website.
-
We are setting up a security infrastructure covering SSL/TLS encrypted data transfer, GDPR
-
and KVKK-compliant personal data processing, and the user's right to data deletion.
The size of this scope also shows the real challenge of the project: one team has to keep an AI model stable in production and build a mobile experience that delivers that model's output smoothly to real users. Doing each separately is relatively easy; running both together in the same sprint plan is the hard part.
How does an AI biometric photo app work?
Photos that don't meet size, background or lighting rules are one of the reasons visa applications get rejected or returned. Applicants often don't even realise it; even a photo taken in a studio can sometimes miss a country-specific detail, such as the proportion of the head within the frame. On Meva Photo the process works in four steps:
-
The user selects the destination country and the system automatically lists its current visa requirements.
-
Required documents are uploaded digitally and missing ones are flagged automatically.
-
The smartphone photo is analysed: face position, size and gaze are checked against ICAO standards, the background is replaced with white, and light and shadows are corrected.
-
The application is approved with one click and every stage is tracked with notifications.
The approved biometric photo can be downloaded instantly as a high-resolution digital file (JPEG/PNG) or delivered as a printed photo to the user's address. The key point is that the check is done after the photo is taken, according to country-specific rules, so users don't have to worry much about how they hold their phone.
Why is turning an AI product into a mobile app hard?
A computer vision model working well in the lab is one thing; delivering reliable results with real photos coming from thousands of different phone models in different lighting is another. The phone in the user's hand might be a budget Android or the latest iPhone, and camera sensors, automatic white balance and compression behave differently on every device.
That is why on Meva Photo we designed model integration not as a one-off task but as a continuously tested pipeline. Our mobile app development team handles the mobile side and our AI solutions team handles the AI side together; moving on the same sprint calendar keeps errors in photo quality control from being noticed late.

Why is GDPR and KVKK compliance a priority on this project?
The data collected during a visa application includes highly sensitive categories such as face photos, passport details and travel purpose. Users entrust this information not to a foreign mission but to a third-party platform, which means the platform carries more responsibility for data security than a standard website.
On Meva Photo, data transfer is encrypted with SSL/TLS, personal data is processed in line with GDPR and Turkey's KVKK, and users have the right to delete their data. This is not a feature added later; it is a requirement designed into the architecture from the start. As a platform grows, tightening data management afterwards costs far more than building it right from day one, so we brought the security layer in from the first sprints.
Why does this project matter for SUNS Technology?
The Meva Photo project matters because it brings our AI solutions, mobile app development and web design and development services together in a single product. Turning a computer vision model into a mobile and web product that works reliably with the irregular photos coming from real users' phones requires managing the right architecture, data security and user experience at the same time.
We run the project with sprint-based reporting and a single point of contact. As a result, Meva Photo doesn't have to coordinate separate teams for AI, mobile and web. You can browse similar projects in our portfolio.
